Did You Know Barbie Can Surf? The Scented Cali Girl Barbie

My daughter was never a fan of Barbie dolls, she was much more interested in playing with a Bob the Builder tool belt and work bench, but there was one Barbie doll which she loved and that was the Scented Cali Girl Barbie featured here.
For her sixth birthday we had quite a big party for her and one of her friend's mums brought her this Barbie doll, other people also brought her dolls - the difference with this one was it was taken out of the box! Yes, fast forward a couple of years and many of the dolls she was given were still in their boxes and not played with at all.

I asked her what she liked about this Barbie and she looked at me as though I should already know before retorting that she was a surfer of course! I think it helped that she was wearing blue which was a favorite color of hers at the time. She also told me that the reason she knew that this Barbie could actually surf was because she even smelled like a surfer! Yes this Barbie is really scented and she smells (to parents) of suntan lotion, which is what a surfer smells like!

This doll comes with suntan lotion, sunglasses and part of her outfit includes an anklet which I should warn you can cause problems - my daughter went through a stage of putting hair ties etc around her ankles as she didn't have a 'surfie' anklet so I would recommend buying your own child an anklet as well if you don't want her attempting to cut off the blood supply to her foot!

I don't remember the doll coming with suntan lotion when my daughter got hers, but it's highly possible that it got lost! Our Cali Girl Barbie did however come with a stand, although it was never used!

Although my daughter may not have been head over heels with Barbie dolls in general my grand-niece does like her dolls (although last year she was interested in Monster High and has 'discovered' Ever After High dolls this year), she also loves fashion.

She takes to long to get ready to go out and she's only 6! Everything has to match which is why I think I could get her over to team Barbie with this next range of Barbie dolls - the Barbie Fashionistas!

Barbie Fashionistas Fashion Fabulous Doll, PinkCheck Price
This is just one of the range and I know that little Miss M will love it as pink is very much her color at the moment.

I love the fact that this doll comes with mix and match outfits and I can see hours of fun being had trying on different looks.

Barbie Fashionista Ultimate ClosetCheck Price
Letting my grand-niece know that Barbie Fashionista even comes with her own closet I'm sure will win her over to team Barbie for sure!

It comes with over 20 pieces and is very portable which means that it's ideal for her to take on car trips along with a favorite Barbie doll that is. Who wouldn'd want a closet like Barbies

Despite my daughter not being overly impressed by the pop icon that is Barbie, I can't help but love her - probably because I never owned one as a child and was insanely jealous of my best friend who had not one, but two Barbies AND a Ken doll!

Check out some of the Barbies available at these links -

Christmas Barbies - Every year a new Barbie doll is released in her holiday best ready to make a little girls day ...... well originally that's what they did although I must admit the Holiday Barbies seem to be snapped up more by collectors these days than young girls, but they still look fabulous.

Halloween Barbies- As with the Christmas Barbies these tend to be snapped up more by collectors these days I think, but they are a great idea to give to your children instead of yet more candy after they've gorged on enough from their Trick or Treat bags!

Superhero Barbies - I absolutely love this range of Barbie dolls (ok, I know I say that about a lot of them!) - I think the reason I like these is because it includes a childhood idol of mine - Wonder Woman. I don't have a Wonder Woman Barbie of my own ...... yet, but I think she would kick some serious @###!

Twilight Barbie Dolls- Barbies have stayed very relevant by keeping up with what is popular from movies to popular television shows you can get Barbie dolls made out of characters you love. The Twilight series of dolls are fantastic and my only disappointment is that it took them so long to bring out an Emmitt doll, although that has since been rectified!

Coca-Cola Barbie Dolls

Relax & Feel Refreshed with a Cool Coca-Cola Barbie Doll!

'C'mon everybody let's do a cheer for two fantastic pop culture icons - Coca-cola and Barbie!'

Let's take a page out of this featured cheerleader who also happens to be one of the collection of coke inspired Barbie dolls that you can get. I only discovered these dolls recently (thanks to a Pinterest board in fact) and I couldn't believe that I hadn't come across them before because (as regular readers will know) I love both Coca-Cola & Barbies!

There's some vintage styled Barbie dolls in this range which seems appropriate considering that coke first became popular way back then! My favorite are the retro 50s inspired dolls, however, there's just something about the idea of popping down to the diner with your friends and enjoying a cool glass of coke!

Let's take a casual stroll and admire these fine dolls in more detail .........

Edwardian Style Barbie Dolls

The Coca-Cola Fashion Classics Series of Dolls

These three Barbie dolls are part of the Coca-Cola Fashion Classics series and are wearing Edwardian style fashions as they enjoy their delicious and refreshing beverages!

As you can see their fashions are also in the classic color combination of red and white - Mattel Summer Daydreams Barbie Coca Cola Barbie DollCheck Price

This doll was actually made using an image from a 1913 Coca-Cola calendar, although I can't find a reference as to who the actual original model was!

I love the use of the parasol and those gorgeous t-strap shoes, I think both of these elements just add a certain something to her historical wardrobe.

Another feature which I think is pretty special is the red and white striped straw in her coke bottle!

Coca Cola Barbie - After the WalkCheck Price
This doll is wearing an outfit that is based on 1916 fashions, to me though it looks like she's about to go and picnic with friends besides a river to watch a regatta. According to Mattel, however, this doll has apparently just come back from a walk and is about to enjoy a glass of 'the real thing'.

Personally I'm going with my idea......

Barbie Coca Cola Soda Fountain Sweetheart DollCheck Price
This gorgeous Barbie doll is based on a 1907 ad for Coca-Cola, the hat is certainly in keeping for that period while I think the red polka dots on the dress add a touch of fun to the idea of enjoying this popular drink.

The holder that her glass of coke is held in is reproduced in authentically historical detail as well.

Retro Style Coca-Cola Barbie Dolls

Coca-Cola Barbie Series of Dolls

The next series of dolls that I have for you are called the Coca-Cola Barbie Series and there are seven dolls that are part of this series which is based on retro 50s fashions which I think look so cool in this red and white theme.

You'll feel like you're on the set of Happy Days when you enjoy these dolls, back in the fifties enjoying sipping cokes and eating fries with all of your friends.

Barbie COCA COLA SODA FOUNTAIN Playset w Shipper BoxCheck Price
The first thing in the series isn't actually a Barbie, but is actually a 'play set' which is designed to display some of the other dolls in the series beautifully.

This is a replica soda fountain with a couple of stools for dolls to sit on and space behind the counter for Ken to serve up those glasses of coke everyone enoys.

Mattel Barbie - Coca Cola Ken DollCheck Price
Coca-cola Ken gives the Coca-Cola Barbie something to dream about as he serves up her favorite soda with a special smile just for her!

Dressed in a white uniform with a red Coca-Cola apron Ken looks like the type of employee any 50's Soda Fountain owner would love to employ!

Coca-Cola Barbie #2 2000Check Price
I love the look of this doll dressed like a classic 50's teenager (except with the coke advertising around her skirt that is) this Barbie is a brunette who is about to enjoy a coke float which makes me feel quite jealous as that's one of my favorite treats from childhood!

1998 Barbie Collector Edition: Coca-Cola Barbie as a Waitress.Check Price
Dressed as a waitress in this trip down memory lane is this gorgeous Coca-Cola Barbie doll. I love the tray that she's carrying out to customers, but I must admit I would've liked to see her with roller skates on instead of her black and white saddle shoes.

This doll also came in a brunette version which I haven't been able to source for you at the present time as it is a long rarer. When this series was first released the brunette Coca-Cola waitress was only available through Disney World in Florida, these days ebay is a great place to look for her.

If you're after a 'sportier' Barbie then you might like the next two dolls that were also part of this series - we're talking about a cheerleader and a member of the marching band.... Barbie Coca-Cola Collector DollCheck Price

This Barbie Majorette has striking dark hair and looks very happy to be leading the parade with her baton in one hand, her uniform complete with tall hat and pom pom decorated shoes looks right at home on her.

Barbie Coca Cola CheerleaderCheck Price
This Barbie doll is the cheerleader from the introduction picture and loves encouraging you all to drink coke!

Her blonde hair is in a ponytail and she has that fresh, all American girl look about her ....... she's also wearing Ken's letterman jacket which I think is a great extra touch.

Whether you're a fan of Barbie dolls or Coca-Cola I hope you've enjoyed this little jaunt with me. I've written other pages about Barbies which you might also find interesting, feel free to them out on my dolls page.

Superhero Barbie Dolls

Awesome Superhero Themed Barbie Dolls

What do you get when you combine your favorite comic book heroes with your favorite doll? These superhero Barbie dolls or course!

I've selected some great superhero Barbies for you which will let your inner geek come out to play with your inner 'girly girl'!

Whether you prefer Supergirl or Wonder Woman or someone completely different I'm sure you'll appreciate all of these cool dolls that I've selected for you......... I've even included some of the superhero adversaries for you too, after all life as a superhero would be boring without some 'bad guys' to pursue!

The one thing all of these Barbies have in common is that they don't stand for any nonsense so whether you want to yell - 'girl power!' or 'Barbie power!' these dolls are great ones to collect.

Batgirl Barbie - A Collector's Doll

Pink Label Barbie Doll

This absolutely stunning Barbie doll is a pink label one from the DC Superheroes Pop Culture Collection range and was released in 2008. As you can see, aside from the costume, Barbie has done away with her famous blonde locks for cascading auburn waves which combined with her bat ears mask makes for a very striking look.

The figure hugging Batgirl 'suit' is accessorized with not just the yellow bat emblem, gloves and boots but also a very arresting gold lined black cape as well.   I think the Batgirl above is the best of the Barbie Batgirls that are available, but there are a couple of others that have been released which I thought I should show you as well.

Barbie as BatGirl: 11.5" Collectible Doll with StandCheck Price
This Barbie Batgirl comes with her own stand which is great for a collector, but personally I don't think she's a patch on the first one as far as looks go.

Barbie as Batgirl on MotorcycleCheck Price
This doll was released as an exclusive to Toys R Us and although you already know my favorite I must say I do love that the motorcycle is included with this doll.

Black Canary Barbie

A DC Comics Barbie Doll

This Barbie doll is part of the black label collection which means it was released for adult Barbie doll collectors. The Black Canary is well known to lovers of DC Comics and is a superheroine who used her martial arts skills to earn the reputation of one of the greatest fighters of the DC Universe.

Not only does this Barbie doll wear the Black Canary's disguise, she also has a 'don't mess with me' look on her face giving Barbie a whole new attitude - or is that just my imagination?

Catwoman Barbie

A Barbie Collector Doll

There are a few different Barbie versions of Catwoman available, but this one has to be my favorite as it's based on the television series that first introduced me to Catwoman. This doll looks like a cross between Julie Newmar and Lee Meriwether the very first two actresses to play Catwoman.

Now I know that Catwoman wasn't actually a superhero, but didn't you want to be her at one stage in your life? Although an adversary of Batman, Catwoman developed quite a following of her own as a favorite anti-heroine.

As I've said there are other options for your own Catwoman Barbie if you don't want a nostalgic walk down a Catwoman inspired memory lane as you can see below.

  Barbie as CatwomanCheck Price
This is another great doll that shows a lot of feline attitude and is a very close second in my mind to the one above. I would be happy with either I must admit!

  Barbie As CatwomanCheck Price
This is probably my least favorite version of Catwoman although (no surprise) I think it's my hubby's favorite! I'm no Eartha Kitt or even Michelle Pfeiffer, but I still believed that if I was more disciplined with my diet and exercise I could still be Catwoman for Halloween until Halle Berry took on the role - I can't compete with that body!

Luckily Barbie's figure is also pretty cool which is why she can crack the whip in style while wearing this skin baring version of a catsuit!

Elektra Barbie

A Marvel Comics Barbie Doll

Barbie has a very sassy look in this 'take no prisoners' outfit and is perfect in the role of a ninja assassin. The outfit that Barbie is wearing here is quite faithful to the comic book version of Elektra.

As both villain, superhero and love interest to first Daredevil and then Wolverine Elektra has certainly had a very interesting comic book life which is why she'll certainly be a talking point in your Barbie collection.

Harley Quinn Barbie

DC Comics Villianess Barbie Doll

This lady's no superhero, shes a crazy super-villain instead! Originally Dr Harleen Frances Quinzel, an Arkham psychiatrist she fell in love with the Joker and becomes his on/off sidekick.

As well as being a high achiever in college earning herself top marks in academia, Harleen was also a talented gymnast which is where she gets her agility. After Poison Ivy befriended her she injected her with a serum which gave Harley Quinn immunity against a lot of different toxins as well as giving her almost super strength and speed.

The Invisible Woman Barbie

A Fantastic Four Barbie Collector Doll

Sue Storm, more famously known as The Invisible Woman is one fourth of The Fantastic Four and this Barbie doll is dressed in the famous Fantastic Four jumpsuit ready for action.

Sue Storm along with her brother, future husband and his best friend were exposed to a cosmic storm and found themselves with a range of powers. Sue's initial power being the ability to turn invisible hence she became The Invisible Woman. However as she got used to using her powers she discovered that she could also make other people invisible and control force fields of invisible energy which has been proven to be a very useful super power.

Poison Ivy Barbie

A DC Comics Barbie Doll

With her gorgeous, thick, wavy, red tresses this Barbie doll may be a formidable eco-terroist, but she's also drop dead gorgeous!

Poison Ivy is usually portrayed as one of Batman's super villains, but she's also close friends to Harley Quinn so if you're thinking of buying either doll they do look good together!!!

Poison Ivy gained her immunity to plant based toxins and other plant related powers after her college professor (who has seduced the previously shy Seattle girl) injected her with a number of poisons and toxins as an experiment one which leaves her quite mad and prone to violent mood swings.

Supergirl Barbie

A Silver Label Barbie Collector Doll

I think this doll (released in 2008) has to be the best Barbie Supergirl I've seen. Supergirl was actually Superman's cousin Kara and shares the same powers as him, along with the same vulnerability to kryptonite.

I remember enjoying the 80s movie Supergirl, but in the comic world she didn't prove popular enough and was 'killed off'. Her story has since been resurrected this millennium along with the release of this rather cool looking Barbie.

Now the collectors doll above isn't the only Supergirl Barbie you can get, there is another which I'm including for you here.
Barbie As SupergirlCheck Price

Personally I think that this Barbie doll just looks like a cheap version of the silver label doll above, but if you're looking for a doll to play with as opposed to 'collect and display' then this option is certainly a lot nicer to the wallet and with the symbol on her chest and her cape it will lead to a lot of superhero style play.

Wonder Woman Barbie

2008 Pop Culture Collection Doll

This has to be my favorite Wonder Woman Barbie doll to date. This is a pink label Barbie that was released in 2008 as part of the Pop Culture Collection and it is stunning.

You can see this doll is my favorite on this page as I've used the image for the introduction too! There's just something magical (to me) about Wonder Woman and somehow this doll has managed to capture it - her strength, beauty and absolute sureness in herself.

Who didn't love Wonder Woman? I think the makers of Barbie very obviously did when they created this model, although they have made other Wonder Woman Barbies as well.

Barbie as Wonder Woman DollCheck Price
This Wonder Woman Barbie doll is also really nice and I do love her cloak. She's just not as majestic and striking as the one above in my opinion, however she does still show signs of that 'can do' attitude that our favorite Amazonian superheroine has.

Barbie as Wonder Woman DollCheck Price
This doll is probably my least favorite one, not only is she sans-cloak but she also looks more like Barbie in dress up than a fearless warrior for justice and peace. Well that's what I think anyway, but I could be a little biased as I'm a Wonder Woman fan from way back to the Lynda Carter days where we would spin around chanting Wonder Woman and secretly hope that we too could change like Diana Prince!

Disney Princess Barbie Dolls

If you're looking for a gift idea for a young girl who still loves to play with her dolls and listen to classic fairy tales then you can't go past a Disney Princess Barbie Doll.   There are lots of different Disney Princess dolls available, but the Barbie ones are classics that are played with for a far longer time than the plush dolls which are available.

Barbie dolls have been loved for generations so combine them with the classic Disney Princesses and you have a winning formula.

You can buy all of the Disney Princess Barbie dolls individually or in sets such as the one featured which has 7 of the Disney Princess Barbie dolls in it.   If you're not sure which Disney Princess is the favorite of the little girl you're buying for then a set is a great idea.

This particular set contains Rapunzel (one of my favorite stories growing up, I haven't actually seen the Disney movie version), Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Ariel, Snow White and my personal favorite Disney Princess - Cinderella.

If you do know their favorite Disney Princess then I would check out this aptly named site - Disney Princess Barbie Dolls to see what individual Disney Princess Barbie dolls there are to choose from.   The site even has the not so often mentioned Disney Princesses Mulan and Pocahontas Barbie dolls.
